The ionic radii of Na⁺ and Cl⁻ are 0.102 nm and 0.181 nm respectively. Assuming NaCl crystallises in the NaCl‑type structure (coordination number 6) and using the Born‑Lande equation U = - N_A M z⁺z⁻ e² / (4π ε₀ r₀) (1 - 1/n) where N_A = 6.022 × 10²³ mol⁻¹, M = 1.7476, z⁺ = z⁻ = 1, e = 1.602 × 10⁻¹⁹ C, ε₀ = 8.854 × 10⁻¹² C² J⁻¹ m⁻¹ and the Born exponent n = 9, calculate the lattice energy (in kJ mol⁻¹) of NaCl. Take r₀ as the sum of the ionic radii.

Answer Options
