Question 41 WAEC_MODEL_QUESTIONS_VOL1 • 2019 • PHYSICS • objective

A block of mass 2.0 kg is released from rest at the top of a smooth inclined plane 5.0 m long making an angle of 30° with the horizontal. At the bottom of the plane a horizontal spring of force constant 400 N·m⁻¹ is fixed; the spring is initially uncompressed. The block compresses the spring by 0.10 m and momentarily comes to rest. Assuming kinetic friction acts over the whole incline, determine (a) the coefficient of kinetic friction μ between the block and the plane, and (b) the speed of the block after it has travelled 2.0 m down the incline.

Answer Options

A. μ = 0.45, v = 1.10 m/s
Correct Answer B. μ = 0.55, v = 0.90 m/s
C. μ = 0.65, v = 0.70 m/s
D. μ = 0.50, v = 0.95 m/s
Correct Answer
B
Correct Option:
μ = 0.55, v = 0.90 m/s
