Waec Model Questions Vol1 2018 Geography Question 30
Practice objective / multiple choice question 30 from the 2018 Waec Model Questions Vol1 Geography examination.
A regional development index (DI) is defined as DI = (P / 30 000) × (D / 150) × ((40 - d) / 40) × (F / 3), where - P = population of the town, - D = population density (persons km⁻²), - d = distance to the nearest city (km), - F = number of qualifying facilities (hospital, university, airport, major market, railway station). A town will be upgraded to a regional centre if DI ≥ 1. The town currently has: - population P = 28 000, - land area = 120 km², - distance to the nearest city d = 35 km, - facilities: hospital, major market, railway station (so F = 3). Keeping the land area, distance and facilities unchanged, determine the minimum increase in population required for the town to attain DI = 1.
