Waec Model Questions Vol1 2018 Civic Education Question 47
Practice objective / multiple choice question 47 from the 2018 Waec Model Questions Vol1 Civic Education examination.
A driver travels a total distance of 80 km on a road where the speed limit is 80 km/h. The journey is divided into three consecutive segments: - Segment 1: 20 km at 120 km/h; - Segment 2: 30 km at 85 km/h; - Segment 3: the remaining distance at a speed that does not exceed the limit. For each segment in which the speed exceeds the limit, the fine is calculated as: excess speed (km/h) × distance travelled (km) × rate, where the rate is ₦5,000 per km/h for an excess greater than 30 km/h, and ₦2,000 per km/h otherwise. Demerit points are awarded at 1 point for each km/h of excess speed (regardless of distance). If the total points exceed 15, the driver's licence is suspended. Calculate (a) the total monetary fine, and (b) whether the driver's licence is suspended.
