Neco Model Questions Vol1 2021 Agricultural Science Question 6
Practice objective / multiple choice question 6 from the 2021 Neco Model Questions Vol1 Agricultural Science examination.
A farmer intends to grow maize on 2 ha. Soil test shows available nitrogen (N) = 30 kg ha⁻¹, phosphorus (P) = 15 kg ha⁻¹ and potassium (K) = 20 kg ha⁻¹. The optimum nutrient requirement for maximum yield is N = 120 kg ha⁻¹, P = 60 kg ha⁻¹ and K = 80 kg ha⁻¹. The farmer can use diammonium phosphate (DAP) which contains 18 % N and 46 % P₂O₅, and muriate of potash (MOP) which contains 60 % K₂O. Prices are ₦45 000 per tonne for DAP and ₦38 000 per tonne for MOP (1 tonne = 1000 kg). Assuming nutrients supplied by the fertilizers are additive and that the farmer will meet the nutrient deficits exactly, calculate the minimum total cost (in Naira) required to satisfy the nutrient requirements.
