Question 43 NECO • 2025 • PHYSICS • objective

A glass prism has an apex angle \(A=60^{\circ}\). Its refractive index follows Cauchy's relation \(n(\lambda)=A_{c}+\frac{B}{\lambda^{2}}\) (\(\lambda\) in nanometres). For red light (\(\lambda_{r}=700\) nm) the index is \(n_{r}=1.62\). When violet light (\(\lambda_{v}=400\) nm) passes through the prism, the measured minimum deviation is \(\delta_{v}=50^{\circ}\).\n\n(a) Determine the constants \(A_{c}\) and \(B\).\n(b) Using these constants, find the minimum deviation angle for yellow light of wavelength \(\lambda_{y}=580\) nm. Give your answer to one decimal place.

Answer Options

Correct Answer A. A_c = 1.61, B = 4.28×10^3; δ_y = 48.4°
B. A_c = 1.60, B = 4.10×10^3; δ_y = 49.0°
C. A_c = 1.58, B = 4.50×10^3; δ_y = 48.9°
D. A_c = 1.62, B = 4.35×10^3; δ_y = 47.8°
Correct Answer
A
Correct Option:
A_c = 1.61, B = 4.28×10^3; δ_y = 48.4°
