Neco 2025 Chemistry Question 11
Practice objective / multiple choice question 11 from the 2025 Neco Chemistry examination.
A 10.0 g sample of aluminium metal reacts with 15.0 g of \(\mathrm{H_2SO_4}\). The reaction is \(2\,\mathrm{Al} + 3\,\mathrm{H_2SO_4} \rightarrow \mathrm{Al_2(SO_4)_3} + 3\,\mathrm{H_2}\). The resulting \(\mathrm{Al_2(SO_4)_3}\) solution is then treated with excess calcium hydroxide according to \(\mathrm{Al_2(SO_4)_3} + 3\,\mathrm{Ca(OH)_2} \rightarrow 3\,\mathrm{CaSO_4} + 2\,\mathrm{Al(OH)_3}\). If the precipitation of \(\mathrm{CaSO_4}\) occurs with an 80 % yield, calculate the mass of calcium sulphate actually obtained (in grams, to three significant figures).
