Neco 2019 Physics Question 40
Practice objective / multiple choice question 40 from the 2019 Neco Physics examination.
A rectangular conducting loop of width \(0.20\,\text{m}\) and height \(0.10\,\text{m}\) lies in a uniform magnetic field of magnitude \(0.5\,\text{T}\) directed into the page. The loop has a resistance of \(2\,\Omega\) and is initially at rest with its plane parallel to the field (so the magnetic flux through the loop is zero). The loop is pulled out of the field region at a constant speed, the side of length \(0.20\,\text{m}\) exiting the field first. After \(0.25\,\text{s}\) the entire loop has left the field. Determine (a) the magnitude of the induced emf during the motion, (b) the average current in the loop, (c) the magnetic force acting on the moving side while it is in the field, and (d) the mechanical power required to pull the loop out at constant speed. Give numerical answers (use \(g=9.8\,\text{m s}^{-2}\) where needed).
