A solid brass rod 1.20 m long and of mass 2.5 kg is initially at 20°C. When it is heated uniformly to 120°C, its length increases by 1.44 mm. Answer the following:

Question Parts

( a )
Determine the coefficient of linear expansion (α) of the brass rod.
( b )
The specific heat capacity of brass is 380 J·kg⁻¹·K⁻¹. Calculate the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of the rod from 20°C to 120°C.
( c )
If the rod is used as a heating element and only 1500 J of heat is supplied, determine the temperature rise of the rod.
