A teenage athlete consumes \(2800\) kcal per day. His diet provides \(55\)% carbohydrate, \(15\)% protein and \(30\)% fat. Carbohydrate and protein supply \(4\) kcal g⁻¹, fat supplies \(9\) kcal g⁻¹. Assuming that gaining 1 kg of muscle requires a surplus of \(2500\) kcal stored as protein, calculate: (a) the extra kcal he must eat each day, and (b) the corresponding increase in protein intake (in grams per day) if the extra calories come only from protein.
