Igcse Model Questions Vol1 2019 Biology Question 2
Practice objective / multiple choice question 2 from the 2019 Igcse Model Questions Vol1 Biology examination.
In a population of beetles the allele \(A\) (dominant) confers resistance to a pesticide. The fitnesses of the three genotypes are: \(w_{AA}=1.0\), \(w_{Aa}=0.8\) and \(w_{aa}=0.2\). Initially the allele frequencies are \(p_{0}=0.4\) for \(A\) and \(q_{0}=0.6\) for \(a\). Assuming random mating and that the same fitness values apply each generation, calculate the frequency of allele \(A\) after two successive generations of selection. Give your answer as a decimal to three significant figures.
