Gce Model Questions Vol1 2022 Chemistry Question 22
Practice objective / multiple choice question 22 from the 2022 Gce Model Questions Vol1 Chemistry examination.
Ethanoic acid \(\mathrm{CH_3COOH}\) reacts with ethanol \(\mathrm{C_2H_5OH}\) to give ethyl acetate \(\mathrm{CH_3COOC_2H_5}\) and water. At 25 °C the equilibrium constant is \(K_c = 4.0\). In a 1.00 L flask 0.500 mol of each reactant are mixed. (a) Determine the equilibrium concentrations of all species. (b) The reaction enthalpy is \(\Delta H^{\circ}=+8.0\ \text{kJ mol}^{-1}\). Estimate the new equilibrium constant at 35 °C using the van't Hoff equation (assume \(\Delta H^{\circ}\) is constant). (c) Using the new \(K_c\) value, calculate the equilibrium concentration of ethyl acetate at 35 °C.
