Gce Model Questions Vol1 2019 Physics Question 28
Practice objective / multiple choice question 28 from the 2019 Gce Model Questions Vol1 Physics examination.
A sealed vertical tube contains trapped air at the top. Initially the trapped air occupies a volume of \(200\ \text{cm}^{3}\) at atmospheric pressure \(101.3\ \text{kPa}\) and temperature \(300\ \text{K}\). The tube is connected to a U‑shaped water column such that the water level in the open arm is \(10\ \text{cm}\) higher than in the arm containing the trapped air. A piston of area \(2.0\ \text{cm}^{2}\) rests on the trapped air. A mass of \(0.50\ \text{kg}\) is placed on the piston, compressing the air while the water level adjusts. Assuming the temperature remains constant and neglecting water vapour, calculate the final volume of the trapped air in \(\text{cm}^{3}\). Give your answer to three significant figures.
