A sparingly soluble salt AB₂ has a solubility product \(K_{sp}=4.0\times10^{-10}\) at 25 °C. (i) When \(0.010\) mol of \(A^{2+}\) is added to \(1.0\) L of water containing the salt, calculate the equilibrium concentration of \(B^{-}\) ions that originate from the dissolution of AB₂. (ii) The temperature is then raised to 35 °C, at which \(K_{sp}\) increases by 50 % (i.e. \(K_{sp}=6.0\times10^{-10}\)). Assuming no additional \(A^{2+}\) is added, determine the new concentration of \(B^{-}\) ions at equilibrium.

Answer Options

A. 3.0×10⁻⁴ M; 1.5×10⁻³ M
B. 5.0×10⁻⁴ M; 2.0×10⁻³ M
C. 1.0×10⁻⁴ M; 9.0×10⁻⁴ M
Correct Answer D. 2.0×10⁻⁴ M; 1.1×10⁻³ M
Correct Answer
D
Correct Option:
2.0×10⁻⁴ M; 1.1×10⁻³ M
