Neco 2025 Government Objective / Multiple Choice Medium Difficulty
Question 31 NECO • 2025 • GOVERNMENT • objective

Party A received 55 % of the total votes in a national election. The legislature has 100 seats, of which 60 are constituency seats elected by first‑past‑the‑post (FPTP) and 40 are list seats allocated to achieve overall proportionality (mixed‑member proportional system). Under FPTP the 60 constituency seats are distributed in proportion to the vote shares, rounded down to the nearest whole seat, with any remaining seat given to the party with the largest fractional remainder. Under the mixed‑member proportional system each party's total seat entitlement is the nearest whole number of seats equal to its vote percentage of the 100 seats, and list seats are allocated to make up the difference between this entitlement and the number of constituency seats won. Determine which electoral system gives Party A a majority of seats (more than 50 seats).
