Neco 2021 Mathematics Essay / Theory
Topic: Variation
Question 10 NECO • 2021 • MATHEMATICS • essay

The time \(t\) (in seconds) taken for a particle to travel a distance \(s\) (in metres) under a constant force \(F\) (in newtons) varies directly as the square root of the distance and inversely as the cube of the force. The particle's mass \(m\) (in kilograms) varies directly as the time taken. When \(s = 200\) m and \(F = 4\) N, the time taken is \(t = 5\) s and the mass is \(m = 10\) kg.

Question Parts

( a )
Determine the constant of variation \(k\) in the relation \(t = k\,\frac{\sqrt{s}}{F^{3}}\).
( b )
Using the constant found, calculate the time taken when \(s = 450\) m and \(F = 3\) N.
( c )
Determine the mass of the particle under these new conditions.
