Neco 2021 Civic Education Objective / Multiple Choice Hard Difficulty
Question 8 NECO • 2021 • CIVIC_EDUCATION • objective

A driver travels a total distance of 120\,km from point\,A to point\,B. The speed limit on the entire route is \(80\\)\,km/h. For the first 30\,km the driver exceeds the limit by a constant amount, then for the remaining 90\,km he drives exactly at the limit. His overall average speed for the whole trip is \(85\\)\,km/h. (i) Determine the speed the driver maintained during the first 30\,km (express your answer to one decimal place). (ii) Under the traffic‑offence rule that each kilometre per hour over the limit incurs 2 penalty points, and any speed more than 20\,km/h above the limit attracts an additional 5 points, calculate the total penalty points the driver receives.

Answer Options

A. Speed = 102.5 km\/h; penalty points = 48
B. Speed = 108.0 km\/h; penalty points = 58
C. Speed = 100.0 km\/h; penalty points = 45
Correct Answer D. Speed = 104.6 km/h; penalty points = 53
Correct Answer
D
Correct Option:
Speed = 104.6 km/h; penalty points = 53
