Neco 2018 Mathematics Question 2
Practice objective / multiple choice question 2 from the 2018 Neco Mathematics examination.
A cylindrical water tank has radius \(r\) and height \(h\) and is closed at both ends. Inside the cylinder a solid right circular cone of the same radius \(r\) and height \(\frac{h}{3}\) is placed with its base coinciding with the bottom of the cylinder. The tank is then filled with water to a depth of \(\frac{h}{2}\) measured from the bottom (including the cone). Find the volume of water in the tank in terms of \(r\) and \(h\), and then give the ratio of this water volume to the total volume of the cylinder, expressed in simplest fractional form.
