Neco 2018 Further Mathematics Question 44
Practice objective / multiple choice question 44 from the 2018 Neco Further Mathematics examination.
A block of mass \(8\,\text{kg}\) rests on a horizontal rough surface. The coefficients of static and kinetic friction are \(\mu_{s}=0.5\) and \(\mu_{k}=0.3\) respectively. A horizontal force \(F\) is applied.\n\n(i) Determine the smallest magnitude of \(F\) (in newtons) that will start the block moving.\n\n(ii) After the block has moved \(5\,\text{m}\) under this constant force, the applied force is reduced to \(10\,\text{N}\) and kept constant until the block comes to rest. Find the total distance travelled from the start until the block stops.
