Neco 2017 English Language Question 78

Every morning, the bustling market of Onitsha awakens with the cries [71] of traders and the scent of fresh produce. Vendors set up their stalls before sunrise, arranging mangoes, yams, and spices [72] in neat rows. The atmosphere is lively, [73] yet there is an underlying rhythm that guides the day's commerce. [74] Consequently A young woman named Ada, who recently graduated from university, decided to apply her knowledge of accounting to help the market's informal traders manage their finances. [75] Soon She approached the senior trader, Chief Emeka, and offered to teach basic bookkeeping. Chief Emeka, [76] who was initially skeptical, soon realized that accurate records could prevent losses during the rainy season when some goods spoil. [77] Therefore, together they organized a simple ledger system [78] that recorded daily sales, expenses, and profits. Within weeks, the traders noticed a steady increase in their earnings, [79] so word spread throughout the community. The success of this initiative encouraged other markets in the region to consider similar programs, [80] thereby demonstrating how education and practical skills can transform traditional commerce. Such collaborative efforts not only boost incomes but also foster a sense of unity among market participants.
