A simply supported beam \(AB\) of length \(10\) m has a pin at \(A\) and a roller at \(B\). The beam carries a uniformly distributed load of intensity \(2\) kN\,m\(^{-1}\) over its entire length and a vertical point load \(P\) kN acting upward at a distance \(4\) m from \(A\). Let the reactions at \(A\) and \(B\) be \(R_{A}\) and \(R_{B}\) respectively.\n\n(i) Determine the value of \(P\) for which \(R_{B}=2R_{A}\).\n(ii) With this value of \(P\), find the bending moment at a point \(6\) m from \(A\).\n(iii) Find the maximum bending moment in the beam and the position where it occurs.

Answer Options

Correct Answer A. P = -12.5 kN (upward); M(6 m) = 4 kNm; maximum moment = 6.25 kNm at 7.5 m from A
B. P = -12.5 kN (downward); M(6 m) = 4 kNm; maximum moment = 6.25 kNm at 7.5 m from A
C. P = -15 kN (upward); M(6 m) = 3 kNm; maximum moment = 5.5 kNm at 7 m from A
D. P = -10 kN (upward); M(6 m) = 5 kNm; maximum moment = 7 kNm at 8 m from A
Correct Answer
A
Correct Option:
P = -12.5 kN (upward); M(6 m) = 4 kNm; maximum moment = 6.25 kNm at 7.5 m from A
