Gce Model Questions Vol1 2018 Further Mathematics Question 42
Practice objective / multiple choice question 42 from the 2018 Gce Model Questions Vol1 Further Mathematics examination.
A simply supported beam AB of length \(8\ \text{m}\) has a hinge at \(A\) and a roller at \(B\). A vertical point load of \(10\ \text{kN}\) acts at a distance \(3\ \text{m}\) from \(A\). In addition, a uniformly distributed load of intensity \(2\ \text{kN/m}\) acts over the right‑hand half of the beam (from \(x=4\ \text{m}\) to \(x=8\ \text{m}\)).\n(a) Determine the vertical reaction at support \(A\).\n(b) Find the internal bending moment at the section located \(5\ \text{m}\) from \(A\).\n(c) A vertical support is added at point \(C\) situated \(5\ \text{m}\) from \(A\). The support is such that the bending moment at \(C\) is zero. Compute the upward reaction at \(C\).
