Gce Model Questions Vol1 2017 Chemistry Objective / Multiple Choice Hard Difficulty
Question 43 GCE_MODEL_QUESTIONS_VOL1 • 2017 • CHEMISTRY • objective

A step‑growth polymerisation is carried out between a diacid of molar mass \(146\ \mathrm{g\ mol^{-1}}\) and a diamine of molar mass \(60\ \mathrm{g\ mol^{-1}}\) in equimolar amounts. After polymerisation the number‑average degree of polymerisation is measured to be 50. Assuming a Poisson distribution, calculate the weight‑average molecular weight \(M_w\) and then the intrinsic viscosity \([\eta]\) using the Mark-Houwink relation \([\eta]=K\,M_w^{a}\) with \(K=1.5\times10^{-4}\ \mathrm{dL\ g^{-1}}\) and \(a=0.75\). Give \([\eta]\) to two significant figures.

Answer Options

A. 0.18 dL·g⁻¹
B. 0.20 dL·g⁻¹
C. 0.12 dL·g⁻¹
Correct Answer D. 0.15 dL·g⁻¹
Correct Answer
D
Correct Option:
0.15 dL·g⁻¹
