City Guilds Model Questions Vol1 2019 Engineering Question 19
Practice objective / multiple choice question 19 from the 2019 City Guilds Model Questions Vol1 Engineering examination.
In a DC circuit a 12 V ideal source is in series with a 4 Ω resistor \(R_{1}\). From the node after \(R_{1}\) a branch contains a 6 Ω resistor \(R_{2}\) in series with an ideal inductor (which behaves as a short circuit at steady state). A load resistor \(R_{L}\) is to be connected across the terminals of the branch containing \(R_{2}\). Determine the Thevenin equivalent voltage \(V_{\text{th}}\) and resistance \(R_{\text{th}}\) seen by \(R_{L}\). Then find the value of \(R_{L}\) that will draw maximum power and compute that maximum power (in watts, to one decimal place).
