A map of a region is drawn at a representative fraction of 1 : 50 000. A newly constructed road is shown as a curved line that has been approximated on the map by three straight segments. The lengths of the segments measured on the map are 2.5 cm, 3.0 cm and 1.5 cm respectively. The interior angles between the first and second segments and between the second and third segments are 40° and 55°. An inset on the same sheet shows a rectangular park adjacent to the road. The inset uses a different scale of 1 cm : 180 m. On the inset the park measures 4.0 cm in length and 2.5 cm in width. The cost of resurfacing the road is ₦12 500 per kilometre.
